We value our state's Public Disclosure Commission (PDC). This state agency makes sure that the public knows who is funding candidate campaigns. Recently, when the generosity of our community resulted in our SGGL PAC exceeding $5,000 in contributions, we contacted the PDC to become a “full-reporting organization” in order to raise additional funds and discovered that we had missed the deadline to make this change. The following day we learned that a citizen watchdog caught our error and reported it. We immediately reached out to the PDC staff for guidance and they advised that we could simply return the excess donations. We are grateful for the help of PDC staff. We immediately returned the excess contributions to eight donors and are proceeding with our work. The system works.
